The problem
The battery is the value. Everyone prices it blind.
A battery is 30-50% of an EV's value, and it degrades invisibly. Two packs with the same age and the same odometer can be years apart in remaining life, and nothing on the outside says so.
So at every decision that touches the pack, someone guesses.
- Resale
- A used EV trades on age and odometer. The pack's remaining life is a guess.
- Financing
- Lenders cap loan-to-value because the collateral cannot be verified.
- Insurance
- Cover is priced without separating healthy packs from degraded ones.
- End-of-life
- Repurpose or recycle is now an audited call, made without a health number.
The battery share of vehicle value is a stated range, not a measured figure.
Financeable loan-to-valueAssumption
One of the four guesses, priced: EVs are financed below comparable petrol vehicles because the pack cannot be verified. Score the battery and the gap has a reason to close.
Stop pricing the pack blind.
